Crystal Palace Cross Country Years 5 and 6 2018

On the 10th of November 2018 students from Wickham Common Primary school went to the Crystal Palace Schools Cross Country competition.

The races were grouped into Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, followed by Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys. Each race was 1800 metres long and there was about 32 Bromley schools competing against us.

It was a beautiful sunny morning, however it had been raining heavily the night before the race. This made the conditions treacherous as it was really wet and slippery. Unfortunately, our school had a big puddle in front of our start-line - but that did not stop us! We were fantastic! We were unstoppable! Everyone tried their best! The course was tough and extremely muddy which meant lots of us slipped. It was really challenging if you wanted to stay at the front with the front runners. The race took us through the woods, across a concrete walkway, up some steep steps and then it looped around back to the finish line. The final bend (where everybody sprinted as hard as they could) was the best part of the race - everybody cheered you on. Including our teachers and parents! It made us all feel really proud after such a great, tiring experience.

The morning was extremely good fun and exhilarating! And amazingly Wickham Common won the medium schools cup for the best scores overall. We were presented with the cup by the deputy Mayor of Bromley and had a photo with him!

I would definitely recommend the Cross Country competition to anyone in future years to come as its so much fun. So get on your running shoes!
