New on-line homework facility

On Friday we are launching our new on-line homework facility – every week, every child from years 1-6 homework will be accessed via the new school website www.wickhamcommonprimary.co.uk under a section called ‘Home Learning’ which is located in the top right hand corner of the webpage – this link will go live at some point this week. During this week your child will receive a ‘paper copy’ personalised letter with their very own log-on details – you as their parent will have the same log-on. On the new website we have published videos on how to access and use this exciting new 21st century facility. These can be found at www.wickhamcommonprimary.co.uk/homehelp which can be found under the parents tab of the new website.

Eventually we will get children to complete their homework and submit it online but we are someway off of this yet. For now you will be able to access the homework on line but you will likely still need to print and complete and hand it in to the class teacher in the traditional way.

“Will there be teething problems?” Yes!

“Will we wish we’d stuck to paper at times?” Initially probably yes … but not for long!

In our mission to prepare our pupils to be citizens of the future we know that this is right and our commitment to go paperless is also part of this. Frequently, homework maybe to create a poster or do some cooking and of course in such cases the evidence will not be submitted on-line, such is the nature of primary school homework. Secondary schools do almost everything on-line and submit assignments on-line as do many adults so the sooner we enable our pupils to become ‘Digi-literate’ the better.

During the parents evenings (19th and 22nd February – online booking will open on Friday of this week) we will have our ICT Suite open and Jack Holloway – our IT Technician will be available to help parents and children who may be having any difficulties with the on-line Home Learning facility. More about this nearer the time. Please be patient and I promise on the long run this will be helpful to you all.

E-SAFETY

As the Internet becomes ever more accessible, it is important to remember about using the Internet safely. The term e-safety is used to cover this area.

Good practices include, keeping your username and password safe and not sharing it with others, as well as, to tell a trusted adult if someone or something has made you uncomfortable or worried whilst on the Internet.
